World Cup 2026 Day 3: Scotland Bumida, Brazil-Morocco Draw, Australia Kumamada in Türkiye

Action overflowed on Day 3 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. One of the most prominent events was Scotland's return to victory after winning against Haiti, 1-0, at the Boston Stadium. John McGinn was the star and made history as Scotland's oldest player to score at the World Cup (31 years, 238 days), and it was also Scotland's first goal at the tournament since 1998.

Another name was also written in history: Ben Gannon-Doak, at the age of 20 years and 214 days, became the youngest player to play in the World Cup for Scotland. On the other hand, Haiti continued to be unlucky as they recorded their fourth straight loss, the combined goals against them in World Cup matches being 15-2.

At the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, Qatar and Switzerland ended in a 1-1 draw. It was Qatar's first point at the World Cup—a big improvement from their failure in 2022. Boualem Khoukhi scored for Qatar in stoppage time, the country's second goal in tournament history. On the Swiss side, Granit Xhaka has recorded the most World Cup games for their team (13), and is the oldest on their roster—a testament to the team's experience. So far, all four teams in Group B are tied with one point each.

Another challenging match, Brazil and Morocco recorded a 1-1 score, Brazil maintaining their unbeaten record in World Cup openers (21 unbeaten streak since 1934). Vinícius Júnior scored for Brazil, it was the first match that the Selecao did not win even though he scored. In addition, Carlo Ancelotti's debut was also historic as Brazil's first foreign coach in the World Cup since 1925. Morocco is still winless in the World Cup opener, with a record of 0 wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses.

The most surprising result was Australia's win against Türkiye, 2-0, at BC Place Vancouver. Nestory Irankunda, 20 years old, became Australia's youngest goalscorer in the World Cup, with the help of Paul Okon-Engstler (21) to get the first goal. It was the first time since 2014 that Australia had scored two goals in a World Cup match, and their first multi-goal win since 2006. Patrick Beach also led the team with a record 8 saves, surpassing Mathew Ryan's previous record.

Day 3 of the World Cup 2026 really proved that anyone, any race, a new phase of history on grass is possible.
