• Ferran Torres scored a brace on his PSG debut, both assisted by Fabián Ruiz, to draw Rennes 2-2 in the opening week of Ligue 1.

Ferran Torres rescued Paris Saint‑Germain from a difficult start to the campaign after netting a brace on his debut to tie Rennes 2-2 in the opening week of Ligue 1. Fresh from Barcelona and fresh off becoming Spain's World Cup hero after his winning goal last month, Torres came off the bench and instantly changed the mood for the reigning French champions. PSG trailed by two goals in the first half after host Rennes struck through Sebastian Szymanski and Esteban Lepaul. Early on, Rennes made PSG difficult with their pressure and pace in transition, causing a succession of chances that resulted in the first two goals of the match. The visitors struggled to find a rhythm in the first 45 minutes and adjustments were needed in the second period. That's when Torres entered the scene. In the 71st minute, he cut Rennes' lead after breaking free from the defense and connecting from a precise pass by Fabián Ruiz, his teammate in the Spanish national team. Not long after, in the 82nd minute, PSG's new star again found an opening—again from Ruiz's creation—for his second goal that delivered a vital draw for the visitors.

Torres' two goals, both assisted by Ruiz, showed the Spaniards' quick chemistry within the PSG setup. More than individual brilliance, the timing of his entry was critical: from two goals down, he revived the attack and pushed PSG to finish the match with a point rather than a loss. The result was important for PSG as it avoided a second straight defeat at the start of the season, following a penalty shootout loss to Lens in the French Super Cup. Instead of deepening the crisis, the night ended with a positive takeaway: the champion has a new weapon in the form of Ferran Torres, and he has a clear connection with Ruiz that could be the foundation of the attack in the coming weeks. For Rennes, disappointed to lose their two-goal advantage at home, their elegant first half still brings confidence. But in the end, Torres' debut heroics dominated the story—a reminder that PSG aren't giving up just yet, especially with a new winger ready to step up to the plate in critical minutes.

What's next

After the match, PSG are expected to continue their search for rhythm in Ligue 1, especially in the coming weeks. Torres' success in his debut has given the team confidence, and it could open up more opportunities for him in future matches. PSG needs to adjust and improve their defense to avoid such situations in the future.
