Bielsa: Without Araújo and De Arrascaeta against Spain in the last group match
Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Ronald Araújo and Giorgian De Arrascaeta will not play against Spain in Uruguay's final group match at the 2026 World Cup.
Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Ronald Araújo and Giorgian De Arrascaeta will miss Uruguay's crucial match against Spain on the final day of the World Cup 2026 group stage. La Celeste need a win to ensure progress to the next stage after a disappointing 2-2 draw against Cape Verde in the second group game.
"They have no chance to play against Spain," Bielsa said in a press conference, stressing that both key players are not yet physically ready.
Araújo picked up a muscle problem in a training session ahead of Uruguay's opening campaign in the tournament, while De Arrascaeta is dealing with leg pain.
The loss of central defender Araújo and the creative De Arrascaeta is a big blow to Bielsa's plans, especially as Uruguay need to get the job done against a solid Spain team to stay in the competition.
