Gazzaev: Nothing Like Pelé, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo in Brazil For World Cup 2026

Famous Russian coach Valery Gazzaev has mentioned the lack of big stars in the current Brazil squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026, compared to the likes of Pelé, Ronaldinho, and Ronaldo.

Renowned Russian coach Valery Gazzaev gave his opinion on Brazil's participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026, as well as the new format of the tournament. In his interview with Nikolay Baranov of 'Championat', Gazzaev asserted that, "Look, it's hard for Brazil to get points. There are still many people who hope for Brazil like in the days of the legends Pelé, Ronaldinho, and Ronaldo. Nowadays, there are no such big stars—except for Vinicius Jr. There are still good players, but there are no superstars who brought the championship back then."

Gazzaev also pointed out that teams such as Côte d'Ivoire and Egypt are getting through the group stage more easily now, due to the expanding competition in football. "The world of football is really growing. Now, there are 48 teams involved and almost 104 matches to follow—it's just too many. But for the countries that are just now participating in the World Cup, it's a huge celebration," added Gazzaev.

After two rounds of the group stage, Brazil has four points and is currently leading the Group C standings.
